CHESTER - Bernice W. Gremmels, 89, of Chester, passed away at 5:27 pm, Monday, April 27, 2015, at the Memorial Hospital in Chester. Bernice was born in Campbell Hill, Illinois on February 23, 1926, the daughter of Adolph C. Hornbostel and Elda Westerman. She married Eldred Gremmels on September 17, 1944 at West Point, Illinois. Bernice was a homemaker and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Bremen. Bernice is survived by her husband, Eldred Gremmels of Chester; a nephew, Randy (Kathy) Troue of Percy, who resided with his aunt and uncle while he was growing up; several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and great nephews; one brother, Adolph Hornbostel, Jr. of Campbell Hill; and two sisters, Alice Nelson of Percy and Lardean Welge of Chester. Bernice was preceded in death in by her parents. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the St. John's Lutheran Church, Bremen, with Rev. Laura K. Kamprath officiating. Burial will follow at Paradise Cemetery, Steeleville. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, where friends may call from 6 pm until 8 pm Wednesday and on Thursday from 7:30 am until 9 am then from 10 am until 11 am at the church.
