Obituary

WILLISVILLE - Bernell Vickery, 87, of Willisville, passed away at 11:00 am, Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at his home in Willisville. Bernell was born in Sparta, Illinois on June 7, 1927, the son of William Harvey and Nora Bowlby Vickery. He married Reatha M. Goss on June 17, 1950 in Percy, Illinois. They were married for 64 years. Bernell was the custodian at Trico School District for 20 years, and was the custodian for Sparta Garment Factory for 21 years. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church in Willisville. Bernell is survived by his wife, Reatha M. Vickery of Willisville; his children, Forest (Kay) Vickery of Pinckneyville, IL and Diana Smith of Murphysboro, IL; his daughter-in-law, Susan Vickery of Oakdale, IL; his grandchildren, Kendra (John) Wiley, Reatha (David) Hahn, Genetta (Robby) Jones, Duane (Renay) Smith, Christopher (Miranda) Smith, Bernel Smith and his special friend, Paula Struthers; his great grandchildren, Emma and Luke Wiley, Adalyn and Joshua Hahn, Naomi, Serria, Abigail, John, Aryianna, Mya, Jaland and Taland Smith; sister-in-law, Deloris Goss; and many nieces and nephews. Bernell was preceded in death by his Parents; one infant son; one son, Steve and 15 brothers and sisters. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 15, 2014 at the Missionary Baptist Church in Willisville with Rev. Brian Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in Percy Village Cemetery. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home in Percy on Friday from 5 pm until 8 pm and on Saturday from 7:30 am until 9 am then from 10 am until 11 am at the church. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, Missionary Baptist Church of Hospice of Southern Illinois.
