AVA - Benjamin I. Vancil, 80, of Ava, passed away at 3:46 pm, Sunday, March 9, 2014 at the Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin, Illinois. Benjamin was born in Ava, Illinois on December 17, 1933, the son of Roscoe Buford and Virginia Marie Dains Vancil. He married Kathryn Marks in April of 1974 at Anna, Illinois. She preceded him in death on May 8, 2011. Benjamin attended the Crain Baptist Church in Ava. He was retired from the Copper Company in Carbondale, Illinois. Benjamin is survived by three sons, Dennis Vancil of Blairsville, IL, Danny Vancil of DeSoto, IL and Dale Vancil of Anna, IL; 3 grandchildren; and one sister, Capalia Skidmore of Ava. Benjamin was also preceded in death by his parents. Funeral service will be held at 11:30 am, Friday, March 14, 2014 at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava with Rev. Tim Olson officiating. Burial will follow in Alto Pass Cemetery, Alto Pass, Illinois. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, where friends may call from 10:00 am until 11:30 am. Memorials may be given to Crain Baptist Church Youth Group, Ava.
