MURPHYSBORO – Barbara J. Brown, 87, of Murphysboro, passed away at 11:20 pm, Saturday, March 11, 2023, at home in Murphysboro, surrounded by her family.

Barbara was born in Murphysboro, Illinois, on January 3, 1936, the daughter of Dan and Mary Puttman Turk. She married Jackie D. Brown on May 11, 1957, in Murphysboro. He preceded her in death on December 26, 2021. Barbara was an Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent at Murphysboro School District #186. She was a member of the St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Murphysboro. Barbara was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Barbara's door was always open for a helping hand and unconditional love. She never met a stranger and genuinely cared for all she encountered. Barbara loved to cook for her family and was a dedicated Mother, Grandmother and Caretaker.

Barbara is survived by two sons, Jimmy (Kim) Brown of Murphysboro, Jeff (Suzi) Brown of Murphysboro; one daughter, Rebecca (Chris) Zotter of Austin, TX; seven grandchildren, Eric and Andrew Brown, London (Pat) Gladson, Levi Brown, Jacob Brown, Tori (Josh) Herring, and Gabby (Kenny) Peterein; three great grandchildren, Ryker Gladson, Jameson Herring and Laela Herring; one brother, Danny (Linda) Turk of Bethalto, IL; sister-in-law, Pat Turk of Champaign, IL; nieces and nephews; and best friend and companion, Rosie, her fur baby.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Andrew for taking such good care of Grandma, and her longtime caregiver, Zonna, who became like family over the years.

Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am, on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Murphysboro, with Father Joel Seipp officiating. Burial will follow at St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery, Murphysboro. Visitation will be at St. Andrew's Catholic Church on Wednesday from 9 am until 11 am. Memorials may be given to St. Andrew's Catholic School.
