STEELEVILLE - August W. Braun, 81, of Steeleville, passed away at 1:14 pm, Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at his home in Steeleville. August was born in Chicago, IL on February 16, 1932, the son of August Alvin and Clara Louise Tirmenstein Braun. He married Mary Lou Casale on January 10, 1959 in Chicago. She preceded him in death on July 10, 1998. He was the retired Assistance Village Clerk from the Village of Steeleville. He was the former owner of Mary Lou's Restaurant. Augie and Mary Lou Braun owned and operated Mary Lou's Restaurant from 1977 until 1990. Augie was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville; past Chairman and Elder of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Chicago and St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Steeleville; present member of the School Building Committee at St. Mark's; Past Vice President of South Shore National Bank of Chicago; Past Auditor of First National Bank of Steeleville; Past President of Steeleville Chamber of Commerce; Past Treasurer for Village of Steeleville; and Past Zoning Administrator for the Village of Steeleville. August is survived by two sons, Rev. Allen (Laura) Braun of Cole Camp, MO and Paul (Sheri) Braun of Valparaiso, IN; and six grandchildren, Clarissa Braun, Katherine Braun, Samuel Braun, Christina Braun, Maria Braun, and Laura Ruth Braun. August was also preceded in death by his Parents. Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 10, 2013 at 11:00 am at the St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Steeleville, with Rev. Dr. Alan W. Janneke and Rev. Kirk Clayton officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Chicago Heights, IL. Visitation will be at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Steeleville, where friends may call from 5 to 8 pm Thursday and on Friday from 10 to 11 am Friday at the church. Memorials may be given to St. Mark's School Fund or Concordia Seminary.
