SPARTA – Arlene M. Hougland, 72, of Sparta, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, O'Fallon, Illinois.

Arlene was born in Chester, Illinois, on October 28, 1947, the daughter of Albert and Margaret Biermann Meyerhoff.  She married Robert Hougland on January 15, 1993 in Sparta, Illinois. Arlene was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville, Illinois and Graphic Arts Union #M990.  She retired from Bindery at Spartan Printing.

Arlene is survived by her husband Robert Hougland of Sparta, Illinois.  Sons; Craig (Stephanie) Meyerhoff of Belleville, Illinois and Chad (Amy) Kempfer of Waterloo, Illinois.  Granddaughters, Briahna and Gwyneth Kempfer of Belleville, Illinois.  Sisters, Norma Stephens of Perryville, Missouri and Ruby Brown of Steeleville, Illinois

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Roger and sister, Brenda.

Memorial services will be held at 7:00pm, Thursday, October 1, 2020, at Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville, with Reverend Mark Harris officiating.  Friends may call from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.  Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.  By executive order, face masks are required, and social distancing guidelines must be followed.
