Obituary

Annetta "Annie" Alms, 63, of Sherman, passed away at 7:50 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2015 at Oak Terrace Healthcare Center following a long battle of a rare dementia. Annie was born in Murphysboro, IL on December 11, 1951, the daughter of Wilbur and Angeline Alms of Willisville, IL. After high school she attended St. John's School of Nursing and graduated in 1972. She then became a cardiology nurse for Dr. James Dove, founder of Prairie Cardiovascular and Prairie Heart Institute, and worked for him her entire 32 year career of nursing. Annie was a dedicated, compassionate nurse, whose priority was the patient care and enabling Dr. Dove to carry out his mission of improving heart care. Her passions were her family, her faith, travel, creating quilts for family and friends, attending ballet performances, flower gardening, bird watching, and anything Italian. She is survived by her husband, Steve Hamer of Sherman; two sons, Matthew (wife, Jennifer) Sanders of Austin, TX and Vince Hamer of Sherman; her grandson, Seth Sanders; her mother, Angie Alms of Willisville; her sister, Banetta Leemon of Royal Palm Beach, FL and many other loving family members. Visitation and Eulogy Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the eulogy ceremony at 10:00 am on Wednesday May 13, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday May 13, 2015 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 524 E. Lawrence, Springfield with Rev. Seth Brown, celebrant. Additional Visitation and Ceremony: Will be held at Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville on Friday, May 15, 2015 from 9:00 am until 10:30 am. Mass will be held on Friday, May 15, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Willisville with Father Leo J. Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Willisville. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. John's School of Nursing, 800 E. Carpenter, Springfield IL 62702.
