STEELEVILLE, Allene Wright, 92, of Steeleville, formerly of Golconda, passed away at 5:16 A.M. Tuesday, December 07, 2010, in Steeleville, IL. She was born April 16, 1918 in McCormick, Illinois the daughter of Albert W. Rushing and Nellie Mae (Powell) Rushing. Allene married Howard Wright on October 14, 1939 in Paducah, KY. Howard passed away on August 6, 2000. Allene began her career in education in 1937, she taught two years at Allen Branch, two years at Bay Valley, one year at Hunting Branch and Served one year as principal at Robb's High School. She then served 20 years in the office of Pope County Superintendent of Schools. She finished the last 10 years of her career as principal of Verona Grade School in the Grundy County. She is survived by her daughter, Vivian Kerley and son-in-law Larry Kerley of Steeleville; granddaughter Kenttria Mize- Blotevogel and husband Mike of Edwardsville; and great granddaughter Isabelle Allene Mize; eight nieces and nephews and one sister-in-law, Betty Rushing of Stonefort, IL. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 9, 2010 at 7:00 P.M. at Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville. Rev. Blu Berner will be officiating. Graveside service will held at 11:00 am on Friday at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Rock Community, Pope County, Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 to 7pm at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, IL. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association.
