Obituary

STEELEVILLE, Allan Lee Waeltz, 79, of Steeleville, died peacefully Saturday, November 14, 2015. He was born on September 25, 1936 in to Gustav and Marie (Klinckhardt) Waeltz in New Athens, Illinois, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his brother, Marion (Gus) Waeltz of Morton, IL. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann (Werre), two daughters, Kelley Keller and her husband, (Chuck), of Waterloo, Illinois and Tracy Herron and her husband Sean of Carterville, Illinois. He has two grandchildren, Alexis Keller and Egan Herron. He was the youngest of three brothers: Robert Waeltz (Lois) of New Athens and Marion Waeltz (Marille) of Morton, IL. Allan is also survived by nieces and nephews: Mark (Erin) Waeltz, West Palm Beach, Florida, Linda (Neil) LaRocco, Portland, OR, Scott (Lillian) Waeltz, Allen TX, Susan (Kenneth) Voss, New Athens, IL, Kathy (Robert) Welker, Mascoutah, IL, Lorie (Frank) Evi, Aurora, Co and Great Nieces and Great Nephews and Friends. Allan graduated from New Athens High School in 1954 and from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Illinois, with a Bachelor's Degree in August 1958. During college he was a member of ROTC. He was also a member of the Alumni Association of SIUC. Allan's career was a service to generations of Steeleville residents. For 35 years he taught biology, anatomy, health and physical education at Steeleville High School. He coached basketball, golf and volleyball along the way. He retired in 1993. Beloved by his students, he will be remembered for impacting the lives of so many. He was a life member of the Illinois Retired Teachers and the National Education Association. Allan enjoyed hunting mushrooms, fishing, golfing and visiting the wineries of Southern Illinois. He had a talent for telling jokes to his many friends and family. He faithfully attended and was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville, where visitation and services will be held. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 1:00 PM at St. Mark's Lutheran Church Steeleville, Illinois with Rev. Kelly C. Bedard officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mark's Cemetery, Steeleville, IL. Visitation will be at St. Mark's Lutheran Church on Tuesday where friends may call from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Wednesday from 10am to 1pm, all at the church. In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church or Celtic Hospice and Home Health.
