Alfred Cleo McLaughlin, 90, of Murphysboro, passed away at 11:50 am, Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna. Cleo was born in Cora, IL, on September 3, 1921 the son of Murry W. and Anna Pearl Rea McLaughlin, Sr. He married Margaret "Peggy" Falkenheim on October 22, 1949 at Waterloo, IL. Cleo was a US Army veteran during WWII 33rd Infantry Division having served in the Pacific Theatre. Cleo was a retired farmer and was a member of the Pate Chapel Baptist Church in Murphysboro. He was a member of the VFW Post #7190 in Murphysboro and the Paul Stout American Legion Post #127 in Murphysboro. Cleo is survived by his wife, Margaret "Peggy" McLaughlin of Murphysboro; children, Thomas McLaughlin of Murphysboro, Beverly (Roger) Connor of LaCenter, KY, Sondra "Sonnie" (Dennis) Mahnken of Steeleville, IL, Ronald McLaughlin of Murphysboro, and Gregory (Charlotte) McLaughlin of Murphysboro; ten grandchildren, Aaron Connor, Eric Connor, Curtis(Amber) Mahnken, Christa Mahnken, John Mahnken, Christopher McLaughlin, Courtney McLaughlin, Loren McLaughlin, Elaine McLaughlin, and Stephanie McLaughlin; two sisters, Aleatha Mifflin of Murphysboro and Veneda Costello of St. Charles, MO; and one sister-in-law, Helen Williams of Murphysboro. Cleo was preceded in death by his Parents; three brothers, Frank, Fred and Murry W. Jr.; and two sisters, Hyacinth Krawczyk and Ann Crisler. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, February 12, 2012 at the Pate Chapel Baptist Church in Murphysboro with Pastor John Pitchford and Rev. Jeff Gee officiating. Burial will follow in Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Pate Chapel Baptist Church on Saturday from 5 to 8 pm and on Sunday from 1 to 2 pm. The preferred form of remembrance are memorials to the Pate Chapel Baptist Church Building Fund
