STEELEVILLE - Agnes M. Helmers, 88, of Steeleville, passed away at 1:05 A.M. Monday, December 01, 2008, at St. Anns Healthcare Center in Chester, IL. Agnes was born January 27, 1920 in Percy, Illinois the daughter of John A. Bergfeld and Agnes (Rury) Bergfeld. She married Clarence Helmers on June 5, 1948 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church at Wine Hill. He preceded her in death on December 6, 2004. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Wine Hill, having joined in 1948. She served as a Sunday School teacher for many years, and was on the picnic committee. She was a member of WELCA and served in all the office of this organization. She was the custodian there for 12 years. She loved gardening, quilting and reading. Agnes is survived by two sons, Harlan (Joyce) Helmers of Perryville, MO and Steven (Marla) Helmers of Steeleville, IL; three grandchildren, Jason (Lori) Helmers, Matthew (Laura) Helmers and Adam (Ellen) Helmers; and one great granddaughter, Avery. She was also preceded in death by her parents, One Brother: Arnold and One Sister: Dorothy Jacoby. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church at Wine Hill with Rev. Edwin A. Reuter and Rev. Kathryn Bielfeldt officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery in Wine Hill. Visitation will be held at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville on Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm and on Wednesday from 7:30 am until 9 am and on Wednesday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Wine Hill from 10 to 11 am. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
